Sometimes we don't get it right. Sometimes the pressure to get the food out goes awry. It could be it's a busy night and your understaffed, or the F.O.H. sat the whole restaurant all at once. Could be the chef's night off or a just a Monday when the strongest staff is off. Whatever the issue may be, it happens. I've been subjected to the pitfalls of the kitchen or restaurant on more than a few occasions. Depending on the severity on what my reaction will be. Sometimes I'll tell the waiter so he or she can inform the kitchen, sometimes I let it go, and sometimes I just don't go back. What I don't do is call a place out online because at some point I was asked if everything was ok.
The first pic on the left was just a fucking disaster. It tasted good, thank God but wholly shit. Chef was trying. The center pic was from a family style Italian joint. Everything and I mean everything was great but this one pasta primavera was just overcooked and tasteless. Barely touched from anyone at the table. Thats a timing issue in a very busy place.
The last pic is the was a disappointment that I did bring up to the waiter. Shockingly from #Italy of all places. Now I know you're asking #Italy? Yes, even Italy has shitty restaurants. This place was one of those tourists grabs that has the menu in your language with outdoor seating. It was our last night, and we couldn't decide where to go so we settled. The app was good the #ambiance was spectacular (we are still in Italy) Chef G's food was good but mine, mine was a dumpster fire. I ordered a short rib dish. As soon as my tongue tasted it, I knew something was off. It tasted fishy. Like seriously seafood. It was a braised beef how the hell could it taste like fish. Now I brought it up to the waiter who couldn't give a flying fuck. He just said, "hmm well that's odd no one else complained" and did nothing else but hand me the bill and maybe some dessert. It bothered me for a while that night on how it could taste fishy. Well, my best guess is that the beef has to be seared in a hot pan with oil before being put in the oven and that's where it hit me. It was a small spot doing large volume the seared the beef in the fryer to cut corners. Unfortunately, that fryer was dirty with the previous oil from all the fried seafood they do and that's why my friends, it tasted fishy. Italy is not immune to hacky behavior. The pressure to cut a corner comes the restaurant #Devil and it's a best practice is not to give in to that temptation but sometimes we do, and you pay.
